Today, the theme is Marfa Myths 2016, where I play bands appearing in the line up of this years festival. I am going to Marfa this week and am excited to see these folks perform live.

The first set is made up of bands with members from the newly formed Heron Oblivion, who is playing the second day. The band is somewhat a west-coast-pysch super group of sorts with members Meg Baird (Espers), Noel Von Harmonson (Comets on Fire, Six Organs of Admittance, Sic Alps, The Lowdown), Ethan Miller (Comets on Fire, Howlin’ Rain, Feral Ohms), and Charlie Saufley (Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound).

Pill is another awesome band playing with the veteran punk-DIY’ers Dead Moon. Pill is also signed on Parquet Courts’ Andrew Savage’s Dull Tools label, another band headlining Saturday. Emitt Rhodes will be playing live with a full band for the first time since the 1970s, Dungen will be live scoring a The Adventures of Prince Achmed and William Basinki will perform. I’m excited about seeing all of these bands and more. I hope you enjoy these sounds of Marfa Myths!

Enjoy! Stay Noisy.

This morning we’ll hear a couple songs from bands I saw play this weekend at Hitone and Glitch. The prolific Ty Segall came out to wreck our psyche with his Emotional Muggers and one of the opening bands, Axis: Sova was really good so we’ll hear their song, “(I feel like) Laying Low.” At Glitch a few Memphis bands played. I really dug Couteau Latex’s live set. We’ll hear their track “De cadanse” at the end of the set.

Starting things off is some post-rock from toe. and then we’ll hear some psych-garage rock from 1970s Memphis. We’ll wrap up with an instrumental from Caspian. Enjoy! Stay noisy.

China’s Chui Wan is next with a kinetic and energetic song with a little off-kilter sound. Today we started off with some lo-fi psych from California native, Morgan Delt from his 2014 self-titled “free-floating” sun soaked album. I also included the second single released from London-based FEWS, called “Zoo.” They are three Swedes and an American playing some pretty great post-punk and I am excited to hear the full length they are working on.

One of America’s contributions to the UK-based shoegazer movement, Drop Nineteens, made the playlist with their 1992 single “Winona.” The Flaming Lips will be performing The Soft Bulletin with the Colorado Symphony in May and so I played “Suddenly Everything has Changed,” and country western inspired band, Gun Outfit’s single from 2015’s Dream All Over album called “Gotta Wanna.”

Enjoy. Stay noisy.
